Dynamic positioning

NASDIS pds is working close to design offices and companies as engineering providers to offshore industry. One of the most important issues for the new vessels operating in deep and very deep water is the Dynamic Positioning (DP). DP is a methodology to keep the vessel in a certain position by means of steerable thrusters instead of mooring lines.
DP systems can be found on several types of vessels:

  • Drillship
  • Semisub
  • Pipelay- Crane vessels
  • Supply vessels
  •  …
  • Mine sweepers
  • Yachts

For this vessel types, it is essential to establish since the early design stages the capability of the DP system installed on board, in order to evaluate the operability of the vessel in a number of scenarios.
NASDIS pds offers the possibility to perform DP capability calculations with different levels of accuracy, taking into account several hydrodynamic aspects, like thruster-thruster interaction, thruster-hull interaction and integrated analysis with ship motions.
All the calculations are performed with a proprietary code capable to cover the above mentioned issues.
NASDIS pds expertise in DP predictions is supported by a continuous research in new solutions and approaches, especially as regards the thrust allocation procedures and on the hydrodynamic modelling of the thrusters.
