Environmental loads

To establish the environmental loads acting on a fixed or floating offshore structure as well as on a vessel, several components must be taken into account:

  • Wind
  • Waves
  • Current
  • Ice

The sum of these components is giving the total external load that a designer must take into account to design and analyse the structures, the mooring or the DP system.
For an initial evaluation of the environmental loads, NASDIS pds can perform preliminary calculations based on a database of model test data. Close to that the most common empirical way to evaluate the loads and more accurate regressions are implemented in NASDIS pds computer code.
