When the main characteristics and geometry of a vessel are defined, an initial speed-power prediction can be made by NASDIS pds to verify whether the expectations of the customer, in terms of powering performance, can be satisfied by the developed hull at a specified draught, trim and delivered power.
The prediction is made via various proprietary codes covering all hydrodynamic regimes and validated on the basis of model tests and full scale trial results.
NASDIS pds resistance and powering modelling is valid not only in calm, deep water conditions, but also in shallow water, channels, wind and waves as well as in iced waters.
Powering calculation are suitable not only for conventional single or twin screw displacement ships, but also for semidisplacement vessels and planing craft, as well as for ships equipped with unconventional propellers (pods, azimuthing thruster, waterjets, etc.).
